Who We Are

34 Years.
One Standard.
No Shortcuts.

Caldwell Industries was founded in Sheffield in 1991 by a working electrical engineer who believed that the person who runs the test should be the person who signs the report. That principle has not changed. Neither has the ownership.

The History

Started by an
Engineer. Still Run
by One.

In 1991, Robert Caldwell left a senior engineering role at a regional grid operator and set up a one-man testing business from a unit on Forgemasters Industrial Estate in Sheffield. His first client was a steel rolling mill three miles away. That client is still with us today.

The business grew because word spread the same way it always does in heavy industry — one maintenance manager told another. By 2001 we had 12 engineers and our first long-term maintenance contracts. By 2010 we had expanded into renewables commissioning and control panel manufacture. We have never taken outside investment, never sold a division, and never changed what we are.

Today Caldwell Industries employs 48 engineers directly, operates from two facilities in Sheffield and Glasgow, and holds five active accreditations. The ownership has not changed. The principle has not changed. The person who runs the test signs the report.

What We Stand For
01
Direct Accountability
The engineer who scopes the job runs the test and signs the report. No handoffs. No briefing gaps. No ambiguity about who is responsible if something is missed. This is not a policy — it is how we have operated since 1991.
02
Fixed Pricing. Always.
We quote a fixed price before any work starts. No day rates, no variation orders on standard scope, no invoice surprises. If we underestimate, that is our problem. Your budget certainty is non-negotiable.
03
British Manufacturing
Every control panel is designed and built in Sheffield. British-stocked spares in every van. When a component fails, we do not wait for a shipment from overseas. We arrive with what we need.
04
No Subcontractors
Every engineer who arrives on your site is a Caldwell employee. Directly employed, directly trained, directly accountable. We have never used agency staff. We never will.
05
Honest Reporting
Our reports tell you what we found — nothing more, nothing less. We do not inflate remediation recommendations to generate follow-on work. If something can wait, we say so. If it cannot, we say that too.
